Play suspended until further notice

TO ALL MEMBERS

You will all be aware of the UK Government’s current instructions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our governing body, the LTA, has issued instruction to all affiliates, an extract from which follows:

Statement in response to Coronavirus pandemic View in browser

The absolute priority of everyone in Britain needs to be protecting the health of the nation, with a requirement to dramatically adjust our behaviour to help slow the spread of the disease, prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, and ultimately save lives. The way everyone can do this is complying with the Government’s guidance and staying at home. Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday evening (23 March) all tennis facilities and courts should be closed, and tennis coaching and activity should be put on hold with immediate effect.  The National Tennis Centre is closed, and all activity delivered by the LTA remains suspended for the foreseeable future, including all LTA organised coaching sessions, programmes and training courses.  We have also now extended the cancellation of all LTA staged and LTA approved competitions (grade 1 to 6) up to 31 May 2020.
The full statement is available to all – use view in browser – further updates will be forthcoming.

Links to UK Gov and NHS Guidance are posted on the LTA site.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OUR CLUB.

As of today, our facilities are closed until further notice – this includes the Clubhouse and all courts.

It is not even possible for members of the same family to use the courts – they are closed to all.

Our Club Coach, Rob, has obviously suspended all coaching activities and is, instead, commencing a routine of maintenance and repair to ensure that the courts will be in pristine condition for our return to some semblance of normality.  He is operating under conditions of strict social distancing and in very difficult circumstances – our thanks to him.

In common with most organisations that operate on an annual basis, we attempt to coordinate the necessary outgoing expenses to operate the club with incoming receipts of membership fees.

Over the next few weeks, we are committed to considerable expenditure on insurances, utilities and fees etc.  Currently, we do not have any information regarding possible deferment of rates or other bills, so must assume that we will need to pay on time.

And so, for the future of the club, we ask for your support by arranging to renew your membership by the due date of 1stApril.  To all those who have already paid – our grateful thanks.

We entirely understand and accept that there will be some who are not in the fortunate position to be able to do so.

To those, we offer our sympathies and understanding, and say that we will, over the coming few weeks, find ways of welcoming all of you back for this turbulent season.

Your membership will not cease overnight, but rather that payment will be deferred to a more opportune time.

Further details will follow, but if you have any queries or concerns, please contact the Membership Secretary Steve

At the end of this, and in the light of how much tennis has been possible, we shall take stock.

If it is possible, within reasonable limits and always safeguarding the future of the club, we would hope to recognise in some way, the commitment that those continuing members have made, and are still making.

You, the members, are the lifeblood of the club – we do not intend to lose any single one of you – for any reason.

If you need to defer, please come back as soon as you possibly can.

The committee are trying to deal with a fast-changing situation and to protect the club for years to come.

We are fortunate to be financially sound and are certain that, with your support, we can weather this storm.

You will be kept informed and we look forward to putting this all behind us and getting back out on court with you at this, the very best of tennis clubs.

PLEASE STAY AWARE – STAY SAFE – STAY HEALTHY

DPLTC COMMITTEE
