The Welsh Government updated its roadmap to Alert Level 3 yesterday evening. This has been possible as cases of Covid-19 have fallen markedly from 37 cases per 100,000 people to fewer than 21 per 100,000 in the past week.
This provided a couple of positive changes for adult tennis and indoor tennis in Wales. The changes are as follows:
From Monday 26th April – Organised adult group activity returns outdoors for up to 30 people, this will enable a return to adult group coaching, leagues and competitions within the 30 person limit. This will also enable the return of social doubles at venues, enabling four people from different households to meet and play tennis.
From Monday 3rd May – Indoor tennis centres and other sports facilities can open for individual activity.
As originally planned from the 17th May adult group activity will return indoors for groups of up to 15 people, enabling the return of adult group coaching, and competitions within the 15 person limit. This will also enable the return of social doubles at indoor venues, enabling four people from different households to meet and play tennis.
It has also been confirmed as planned that from Monday 12th April you can travel freely within the UK Common Travel Area (The Common Travel Area means the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland). Therefore you can play tennis for example, at your preferred venue if it is across the English/Welsh border.
We will update our Return to Play Guidance to reflect these changes next week.
